Whitby, Ontario is a town located in the Durham Region and has a population of 130,000 residents. It is located just east of Ajax and is situated on the north shore of Lake Ontario. It is approximately a 30-minute drive to the GTA and a 40-minute GO Train ride from Whitby Station to Toronto Union Station.
While the southern portion of Whitby is predominantly an urban, economic, and cultural hub, the northern part of the municipality is more rural and includes the communities of Ashburn, Brooklin, Myrtle, and Myrtle Station.
The Town of Whitby maintains 125 parks with 950 acres of active parkland, over 1000 acres of open space and beaches, and approximately 60 kilometres of trails.
The 272-hectare Lynde Shores Conservation Area, together with the adjacent Cranberry West Tract (40 hectares), is well known for its wildlife viewing opportunities. Lynde Shores Conservation Area has a number of looping trails that are just the right length for young children and are generally stroller and wheelchair friendly.
The beautiful 284-hectare Heber Down Conservation Area offers a variety of activities including fishing, nature walks, and picnicking.

The Town of Whitby has been designated a platinum-level “Youth Friendly Community” through the Play Works Youth Friendly Community Recognition Program. This designation is reserved for communities that actively support and provide opportunities for the growth and development of youth ages 13-19 through play. This is defined by Play Works as any non-school activity that has elements of choice, leads to satisfaction, and encourages progressive learning and enjoyment. Port Whitby Marina
Port Whitby Marina is a 420-slip award winning Marina located on a beautiful, natural harbor of Lake Ontario. It operates year-round and is surrounded by acres of parkland and trails. It is also close to beaches, restaurants, and attractions. Salmon and trout fishing, and sailing charters are available on site. The Marina is available for use by members and visitors alike, and offers a host of convenient facilities and services.
