Bowmanville, Ontario: A Historic Community with Charm & Accessibility

Situated in the municipality of Clarington, Bowmanville has a population of 40,000 people. Located about 75 km east of Toronto and 15 km east of Oshawa along Highway 2, Bowmanville’s history dates back 200 years with the arrival of the first European settlers. Remnants of the town’s early prosperous years are found throughout town, not only in the streetscape of the downtown area, but in the number of large picturesque houses built over 100 years ago. Bowmanville is a community with small town charm, yet is jam-packed with amenities for all families. It truly combines the best of both worlds.

Perfect Community for Families

Bowmanville has 11 elementary schools and four high schools, as well as two private schools. Nearby Durham College of Applied Arts and Technology includes campuses in Oshawa and Whitby, a learning site in Pickering, and community employment services in Uxbridge, Port Hope, Port Perry, Beaverton, Oshawa and in Bowmanville.

Active families will enjoy community programs ranging from sports to swimming, crafts and special interest courses through the local community center and library. The Bowmanville Older Adult Association offers a wide variety of programs and activities for busy seniors.

Only a 15-minute drive from Bowmanville, The Oshawa Centre is the largest mall east of Toronto and is a prime location for shopping and is loaded with popular retailers.

So Much to Offer

Bowmanville is a community known for its family-centered festivals and activities. Annual events like the downtown Applefest & Craft Sale, Maple Festival, Summerfest, Christmas Moonlight Magic, Ribfest and many more, offer families the opportunity to celebrate the bounty of the Durham Region, as well as an abundant amount of local talent. The Town of Bowmanville shines at Christmastime when thousands (from as far as Toronto and Peterborough) flock to North end of town for the annual Christmas lights display.

A major attraction in the municipality is the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (formerly Mosport International Raceway), a multi-track facility located north of Bowmanville that features a 4.0 km racetrack, and a 1.4 km kart track.

Families looking to cool off in the summer heat can check out Cedar Park Resort, which features one of the area’s largest swimming pools with a heated waterslide, as well as mini golf, tennis, children’s water play areas and more.

For Those Who Love the Outdoors

Residents of Bowmanville and the surrounding Durham Region enjoy waterfront trails and beaches along Lake Ontario, Greenbelt protected orchards and farmlands, and the natural beauty of the Oak Ridges Moraine. Parks for cycling, skiing, and snowmobiling abound, all within a 10- to 20-minute drive. The largest of the nearby parks, the 11,000-acre Ganaraska Forest is divided into three areas including the Central Forest, West Forest, and East Forest. The Central Forest classic and snowshoe trails are a series of well-marked looped trails that start at the Ganaraska Forest Centre. These groomed and track-set trails are popular for skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Other Skiing and snowboarding facilities in the Durham Region include Brimacombe, LakeDagmar and Kirby, just to name a few.

Breath-taking Conservation areas include Bowmanville West Marshes, Enniskillen, Long Sault, Central Lake Ontario Conservation and Stephen’s Gulch.

Toronto Is Accessible Like Never Before

Thanks to the newly completed extension of the 407 toll highway, families living in Bowmanville have easier and quicker access to Toronto. Bowmanville GO Station is a planned GO Transit train station to be built by Metrolinx in the Bowmanville community in the near future. The approved expansion of train service on the Lakeshore East line will create a transit hub for residents of the entire Durham Region. This newfound accessibility will not only make commuting to the city a seamless process, but will also bring jobs to the community and business to the local economy.

Bowmanville offers a variety of exceptional housing options that make it very appealing for families. Homes that are more reasonably priced offer additional square footage as well as more property and larger yards than those found in the city. Residents of Bowmanville are able to enjoy a reasonable commute to the city, and then return home to enjoy a town with a real sense of community.
